Rabbit Virus RHCV K5 released in Hughes Creek Catchment.

The new K5 rabbit virus was released in the Hughes Creek Catchment on March 6th 2017 at two sites. Blue Top Road Highlands and Weibye Track Ruffy.

The plan is for rabbits to eat the virus coated carrot pieces , catch the virus then die. Flies will be attracted to the dead rabbit carcasses of the infected rabbit. These flies will spread the virus to other rabbit populations. Let’s hope all goes to plan.

If you observe dead rabbits in the coming weeks please notify any landcare member so that the sighting can be recorded on Feralscan.
